November 5, 1924 - January 18, 2019
Ruth Nettie (Lapinsky) Sadoff, age 94, of St. Paul. Died Jan. 18, 2019. Wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, confidante. Compassionate caregiver and gentle soul whose strong, silent, stoic nature carried her through some of life’s most challenging times. Her needs were simple and her greatest happiness was found in the company of family and friends. She spent 18 years tending to her husband, Michael, at their home following his strokes. After his death, Ruth was proud of her ability to live independently for 10 additional years; she continued to handle household duties, go grocery shopping, volunteer, walk around Highland Village and Rosedale Mall (to keep her girlish figure and stay in shape), and have lunch with the ladies. Many remember Ruth for her professional gift-wrapping skills, ability to fix anything that broke (a real Jill of all trades), common sense and street smarts, and robust sense of hospitality; all who entered her home were welcomed with open arms and left with a goodie bag. Following a traumatic fall seven years ago, Ruth moved into Sholom Home East. She was very grateful to the entire staff for their exceptional care and the special relationships she formed late in life. Heartfelt thanks to Amy, Marla, Jummi, Penny, Denice, Jennie, the two Barbs, Lori, Mike, Jurzee, Ubah, Sarah, and the rest of the crew for embracing Ruth with love and laughter, and making her feel like a queen. You meant the world to her. Additional thanks to HealthEast Hospice for adding to the quality of Ruth’s final days. Preceded in death by parents, Gertrude Esther & Phillip Lapinsky; husband of 44 years, Michael; brothers Chuck, Arnold & Lou Lapinsky; sisters-in-law Sue Lapinsky, Florence Lapinsky, Jeanne Efron, Charlotte Sadoff, Florence Sadoff, Fern Gleeman; brothers-in-law Irving Sadoff, Stan Efron, Harold Sadoff, Jack Gleeman. Survived by daughter, Lynn; grandson Danny, who made her smile with his “guitar and piano playing talent, rock star dreams and long flowing hair;” sisters-in-law Eleanor Lapinsky & Gert Sadoff; brother-in-law Chuck Sadoff; and a large group of nieces and nephews who brightened her days over the years: Carole & Tim; Joyce & Richard; Alan & Ruthanne; Terri & Albert; Dan & Corrie; Steve & Judy; Raulla & Gene; Wendy; Phil & Bernadette; and Dan & Cyd. Ruth was also supported by a host of friends including John & Gloria; Joyce & Harlan; Jeannie; Harriet & Marvin; Becky; Betty and Maude (of blessed memory); Jody; Rita; Carrie; Jeff & Amanda; Ken, Kathy & Evan; Cindy; Crystal; Stuart & Patty; and Peter, whose genuine, ongoing attention and kindness made her think of him as her own son. If we missed a member of Ruth’s inner circle, please know it was a slip of our collective memory but not of our hearts. Funeral service 11:30 a.m.Sunday, Jan. 20th, at HODROFF-EPSTEIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 671 South Snelling Ave, St. Paul. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Sholom Home East or donor's favorite charity. SHIVA: Monday, Jan. 21st, 7:00 p.m., Sholom Home East, 740 Kay Ave., St. Paul.
