Norman N. Tolchiner

August 18, 1936 - January 22, 2021

Norman Tolchiner passed away at the age of 84 on Friday January 22nd. Norman was born in Bismarck, North Dakota on August 18, 1936. Preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude and Ben Tolchiner. He is survived by his children, David Tolchiner (Robinn Bloom), Julie Moss (husband, Scott); grandsons, Mathew (Mickey) Tolchiner, Danny Tolchiner, Maxwell Moss, and Myles Moss; brother, Jimmy Tolchiner (Billie Schwartz); nephew, Joe Tolchiner; brother-in-law, Aaron Crohn; and Norman’s former wife, ElsaBeth. Norman’s family moved from Bismarck, North Dakota to North Minneapolis where he went to North High School and on to the University of Minnesota. He went on to earn his pharmacy degree. Norman practiced pharmacy in the Army reserves. He started a business selling hair care products to neighborhood drugstores. This led him into the close-out business. Norman and his wife purchased Crazy Louie’s Surplus City. He was able to display the eclectic array of collectibles he loved to talk about. Norman was a fixture at The Minnesota State Fair for 50 years. Without a doubt, his biggest joy in life was his family. He lived vicariously through his kids and the businesses and things taking place in their lives. He loved with his heart and his grandchildren were everything to him. Along with his family, Norman maintained lifelong friendships with people he was able to call true friends. Norman will be remembered as a proud father and an even prouder grandfather.
