Myra Mandel Halpern Obituary (1944 - 2016)

Myra Mandel Halpern, age 72 died in her home in Rancho Mirage, California surrounded by her loving family on October 5, 2016, after a battle with lung cancer. She was born in St. Paul, MN to her parents Nathan & Adeline Mandel. She graduated from St. Paul Central, and attended the University of Minnesota before tackling a number of challenging jobs in the clothing industry. She married the love of her life, Jeffrey, in 1966, and celebrated 50 years of marriage on August 28th of this year. They lived together in Edina, where they raised their daughter Liza, and retired to Rancho Mirage, in recent years. Myra was a devoted mother to her only child, the best Mimi to her grandchildren Max and Jesse, and an unbelievable friend to many. Myra was an avid lover of all mind games including mahjong, canasta, pan, and, in particular, the poker slot machines. She had an undying energy, and an enormous heart, and will be greatly missed by the multitude of people who had the good fortune of calling her their friend. Myra leaves behind her beloved husband, Jeffrey Halpern of Rancho Mirage; her daughter and son-in-law Liza and Jeffrey Meyerhardt; and her grandchildren Max and Jesse Meyerhardt of Needham, Massachusetts; her sister-in-law Bonnie Sell; brothers-in-law Jeffrey and Neil Sell; and many dear nieces, nephews, cousins and her devoted caretakers. Funeral service 11:00 a.m. MONDAY October 10TH at TEMPLE ISRAEL, 2324 Emerson Ave. So., Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, please donate in memory of Myra Halpern, to the Pan Mass Challenge, Team Perry, a 200 mile biking fundraiser which raises money for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
