Morris Schwartz Obituary (2007) - Champlin, Minnesota

Schwartz, Morris, of Champlin, March 1, 1909 – October 20, 2007. Morey was born in Lubova, Russia and came to America with his family when he was 7 years old. He was a proud member of the United States Army and served as a Staff Sergeant, Motor Sergeant and machinist for Company B, 329th Engineer Battalion in Northern France and Central Europe during WWII. Morey received the Good Conduct Medal and the European, African and Middle Eastern Service Medal Along with his regular foreman duties of supervising over 50 men, Morey participated in the liberation, giving comfort to the Holocaust survivors and providing a proper burial for those who perished. Morey was very proud to have built over 50 generators from spare parts, in his off time, for the Red Cross. When the commander told him he could have whatever he wanted in payment for his services, he asked only for a handshake and a bottle of whiskey to share with his crew. He is a member of the International Assoc. of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and the Twin Cities Machinist Organization. He loved motors and machines, cars, RVs and motorcycles, traveling, tinkering in the house he built and spending time with family and friends. He is preceded in death by wife, Lois; brothers, Sam & Meyer and sister, Lily Kersch. Survived by brother, Abe (Bailey) Schwartz; nieces and nephews, Roberta Marx, Edward (Bayla) Schwartz, Joni Lavick, Reva Zane and Marlene Schwartz; great-nieces & nephews, Jennifer Mills, Estee (Howard) Warsett, Leslie (Tom) Conroy and Harlan Schwartz; great-great nieces and nephews, Michael Mills, Jeremy Warsett, Francis Warsett, Tracey Warsett, Alex Conroy and Anna Conroy; and special friends, Grace Davis, Jeanne Alicea, Melissa Alicea, Kris Lasneski and Bonnie & Weldon Arndt, along with many wonderful friends & neighbors. Graveside service TUESDAY 1 PM, UNITED HEBREW BROTHERHOOD CEMETERY, 70 ½ & Thomas Ave. S., Richfield. Memorials preferred to donor’s favorite charity.
