Maurice Lava Obituary (1914 - 2010) - Minneapolis, Minnesota

Maurice Lava, age 95, of St. Louis Park, passed away peacefully Jan. 8, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Ann and Sylvia. He is survived by his loving wife, Edith of 72 years; and children, Diane & Dr. Neil Hoffman, Dr. Jeffrey & Joan Lava; his grandchildren, Leslie & Peter Bacig, Lisa Hoffman, Michael & Tracy Hoffman, Jennifer Lava & Jay Robertson, Joel & Sarah Lava; great-grandchildren, Cole and Mara Bacig, Raya and Simon Hoffman, and Chloe Ruby Lava; he is also survived by his brother, Dr. Irving Lava, and brother-in-law, Jack Nemerov; as well as many nieces and nephews. Morrey grew up in Chicago, IL and came to Minneapolis in 1937 to marry the love of his life, Edith Nemerov. Morrey worked in the jewelry business, and started his own company that designed and manufactured fine rings. This company did very well, and he sold it at age 65. Morrey could not retire and at the age of 70 started a new jewelry and diamond business, which also thrived. He worked actively until age 89. Morrey was a 32nd degree Mason and active in many organizations. He was a founder of Brookview and Rolling Greens Country Clubs. He was active at Beth El Synagogue and was a member of Oak Ridge Country Club. The family would like to thank Linda Scanlon, his business partner and friend, as well as Sheryl, Tracy and the staff of Wellstead of Rogers for their care and support. We also appreciate the support and care of the North Memorial Hospice Unit. Funeral services will be held on TUESDAY, JANUARY 12, at 11 AM, at BETH EL SYNAGOGUE, 5224 W. 26th Street, St. Louis Park. The family prefers memorials to the Nemerov – Lava Fund at Beth El Synagogue. SHIVA will be at Knollwood Place, 3630 Phillips Pkwy, St. Louis Park, Tuesday at 7 pm
