Jacqueline Harris Obituary (1924 - 2022)

Jacqueline (Gershovitz) Harris, age 97, of Minneapolis, passed away on June 28, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. The youngest of six children, Jackie grew up in North Minneapolis. She, along with her identical twin sister, Aileen, loved singing and entertaining which she did all through high school and much of her adult life. She met the love of her life, Wally, when she was 15 years old. They were engaged when she was 18 and married as soon as Wally returned from WWII. Jackie created a beautiful and loving home for her husband and three daughters. She was a wonderful cook and baker, making every holiday a joyous occasion. She adored her eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. She loved dancing with Wally, music, traveling and socializing with friends. She had great style, impeccable taste, a radiant smile and a kind and loving heart. Jackie was preceded in death by her husband, Wally; parents, Rose and David Gershovitz; brother, Samuel Gershovitz (Marsha); sisters, Ann Levy (Ernest), Frances Blindman (Harry), Sylvia Shink (Max) and Aileen Bershow (Harold); son-in-law, Richard Shapiro; grandson, Thomas Johnstone. She is survived by daughters, Bonnie Shapiro (Rick Levinson), Andrea Johnstone (Bill) and Patti Colich (Michael); grandchildren, Aimee Sedley, Samantha Hess (Michael), Katie Levinson (Ryan), Jesse Diamond (Caitie), Anthony Johnstone (Autumn), Sam Colich (Jenny) and Cortney Colich; great grandchildren, Max and Maddie Sedley, Josselyn and Hillary Hess, Jackson, Adilee and Noah Romeo-Diamond, Lucy, Mary and Tommy Johnstone and Oliver and Hugo Colich. We want to thank her amazing caregivers, Molly, Ali, Joni, Lisa, the staff at the Gables, Park Nicollet Hospice and her very caring hospice nurse, Katie Triggs. Funeral Service 11:30am on THURSDAY June 30th at TEMPLE ISRAEL, 2323 Freemont Ave S., Minneapolis. Memorials may be made in Jackie’s name to charities of the donor’s choice.
