Ida G. Rapoport

Ida Rapoport, age 98 of St. Paul, died November 8th after a long and full life. The youngest of three, she was born to Herman & Anna Geller in Kryve Ozero, Ukraine. Due to pogroms and civil war, the Gellers immigrated with very little to Rumania in the dead of night and then crossed the Atlantic to join Herman’s brothers in St Paul in 1921. Ida graduated from St Paul Central High School and the University of Minnesota with a Master of Social Work. She worked as a social worker for Ramsey County and later taught Social Work at the University of Minnesota and St. Catherine’s University. She was a leader in the Social Work Association, Parents for Integrated Education, League of Women Voters, Jewish Family and Vocational Service, and Hadassah. Ida was married for 47 years to Leonard who passed away in 1998. She is survived by sons, Edward Stanley and Andrew Jacob; grandchildren Sophie (Rabbi Joshua) Barton, Hepzibah Rapoport, Ronit (David) Ciranni and Alex Rapoport; great-grandchildren Levi and Gideon Barton and Meira Ciranni. Funeral service 1:30 p.m. SUNDAY November 11TH at MOUNT ZION TEMPLE, 1300 Summit Ave., St Paul. Memorials preferred to Ida and Leonard Rapoport Fund at the St. Paul Jewish Community Center or the donor’s choice. SHIVA 7 p.m. Sunday at Sholom Home East, 740 Kay Ave., St. Paul and at Edward’s home, Mon- Fri 6:45 a.m. and Mon-Thu at 4:30 p.m.
