Herbert Abraham Margolis

October 19, 1933 - February 4, 2022

Herbert Abraham Margolis October 19, 1933-February 4, 2022 Age 88, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2022 at his home in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Preceded in death by parents, Fannie and Leonard Margolis; brother, Sydney Margolis and uncle, Abe Permack. Herb was a generous and kind man who loved his family above all. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Lesle S. Margolis; children, David Sydney Margolis (Sheryll), Anita Joy Margolis, and Jarad Anthony Margolis (Kelsey); grandchildren, Alexander (Cheri), Zachary, Justin, and Theodore (Teddy) Abraham; and great grandchildren, Aviva and Aiden. Herb was born in Canwood, Saskatchewan and grew up in Minneapolis, attending North High School and the University of Minnesota. He was a successful, self-made entrepreneur starting several real estate and construction companies, including Accent Realty, The Seneca Group, and Bri-Mar Companies. He oversaw the construction and remodeling of recognizable projects in the Twin Cities like Shalom East and West, People Serving People, The Guthrie Theater, Be the Match, and Temple Israel, where he was a member for 43 years. Herb’s projects were a perfect match for his talents and passions, as he loved working with people, negotiating, problem-solving, and was highly creative. His mind was always working, and he was never one to sit still. Herb loved holidays and family gatherings and loved telling the Passover story, especially to his children and grandchildren. Herb was known for precisely carving the turkey on Thanksgiving, making a renowned sardine salad for the Jewish high holidays, and regaling family and friends with entertaining stories from his construction projects or time spent overseas serving in the U.S. Army. Herb was adventurous. He loved to travel with his family and friends, including summer fishing trips to Alaska. His craftsmanship and love for woodworking was exceptional. Herb created many gifts through his years and was known especially for his unique, one-of-a-kind pens that he loved to share with those close to him. The integrity of a man is judged by how he acts when no one is watching. Herb embodied this with his generosity and love, especially for those who least expected it. Herb is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews including Sheila Livingston, Franci Livingston, Hallie Livingston, Sandy Livingston, Martin Friedman, Alex Friedman, Kate Friedman, Robin Livingston-Richter, Sam Richter, Maddie Richter, Kameron Richter; ex-wife, Ursula Margolis; Sister-In Law, Linda Grong (David) and her family; Brother-In-Law, Tom Stewart (Kay) and their family; and many beloved cousins and relatives across Canada. Funeral services to be held in person at Temple Israel, 2323 Fremont Ave. S, Mpls and via Zoom on Tuesday February 8th at 10:00 a.m. Masks and vaccinations required. A private burial to immediately follow for family only. Zoom shiva, Tuesday, 5:30pm. Email [email protected] for the zoom link. In lieu of flowers, memorials to People Serving People and Camp Teko Scholarship Fund at Temple Israel. Herb was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren and their many amazing accomplishments.
