Heidi Susan Resnick

March 12, 1957 - September 12, 2018

Heidi Susan Resnick Born March 12, 1957 Died September 12, 2018 Preceded in death by father, Harvey Resnick; stepfather, Elliott Karasov. Survived by mother, Nancy Karasov; sister, Bonnie Resnick (Alan Milavetz); nephews, David & Daniel Milavetz; nieces, Zoe & Talia Milavetz; uncles, Arthur Stone and Alan Stone (Lou Ann); cousins; stepsiblings, Phyllis Karasov (Alan Olstein), Deborah Karasov, Bill Karasov (Corliss); Barbara Karasov Lerner (Michael); and their families. Heidi was a genuine, inquisitive, charming and humble person who was loved and cherished by her family. She had many academic achievements: a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Indiana University and 30 years as a professor and supervisor at the National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina. She loved her work, researching Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, writing numerous grants and papers that shed light on best treatment for rape victims. Her papers have been cited over 2000 times. Despite her many accomplishments, she would say “that’s not what’s important. I don’t need to impress people.” She loved spending time with her nieces and nephews, her cat, Roy Rogers, and communicating daily with her mother and sister. Her creative endeavors included: writing poetry and songs, playing guitar, watercolor painting, and spending time kayaking on the ocean. Her mind was always churning with daily NY Times crossword puzzles, genealogy, writing and editing numerous books. Heidi will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Memorial service THURSDAY, 2:00 pm, MOUNT ZION TEMPLE, 1300 Summit Ave., St. Paul. Memorials preferred to Charleston Jewish Family Services, 176 Croghan Spur Road, Suite 100, Charleston, SC 29407. SHIVA: Thursday 7:00pm, Beth Jacob Congregation, 1179 Victoria Curve, Mendota Heights.
