Gerald “Jerry” Shear Jerry Shear, age 86 of St. Paul, Minnesota, passed away on December 2, 2018, after a brief illness. Preceded in death by brother, Howard Shear; and parents, Rose and William Shear. Survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Isabelle; brother, Bert Shear; daughter, Rhonda Davis and her fiancé Frank Goldman of St. Louis Park, MN; son, Mark Shear and his wife Debra of Worcester, MA; daughter, Helene Shear of St. Paul, MN; four grandchildren, Erica and Alyssa Shear and Bret and Laura Davis; and his special buddy, grand dog, Karma. Born on October 28, 1932 in St. Paul, Jerry was a proud and hearty Minnesotan through and through, living in St. Paul his entire life. He graduated from Mechanic Arts High School in 1950 and then earned a degree from the University of Minnesota. As a member of the Army, Jerry proudly served our country in the Korean War. After college, Jerry began his career with the United States Post Office, where he worked until his retirement. In his spare time, Jerry also ran and operated a printing business. Helping families prepare for their celebrations gave Jerry tremendous joy, and he was able to put his creativity to good use. Jerry had an eclectic set of hobbies. He and Isabelle loved fishing, and a highlight of every summer was going “up to the lake” in Wisconsin for their annual fishing trip. Regardless of what he caught, he always had many stories to tell. Jerry and Isabelle also enjoyed traveling in their retirement, and visited many places, on land and at sea. He also was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings, loved cooking and was expert at traditional Jewish foods and other delicacies, enjoyed listening to Klezmer music and had fun and some success at the occasional poker game. He was a member of the Temple of Aaron synagogue for over 50 years. More than anything, though, Jerry was known for his witty sense of humor and his love for and devotion to his family. Every family event was a wonderful combination of socializing, tasty food and good humor. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the VA Hospital for their excellent, compassionate care. FUNERAL: 1 PM on TUESDAY, DECEMBER 4th at Temple of Aaron, 616 Mississippi River Boulevard, St. Paul, MN. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sholom Foundation, 3610 Phillips Parkway, Minneapolis, MN 55426. SHIVA: Service at 7 PM Tuesday, 12/4 and 7 PM Wednesday, 12/5 at his residence, 2353 Youngman Ave., St. Paul, MN in the Community Room.
