September 19, 1928 - November 27, 2020
Edward Wolf, 92, of St. Louis Park, MN died on Friday, November 27, 2020. Ed was born September 19, 1928 as Isidor Wolff in Berlin, Germany. Born on the cusp of Nazi Germany, Ed had a difficult childhood and adolescence that he grew more comfortable recounting in his later years. He was stubborn, a risk-taker, handsome, and very charming: all of these characteristics served him as he survived first in Nazi Berlin and later during the Soviet occupation of East Berlin. He brought his strength with him as he moved around displaced persons camps in Germany, until he emigrated to the United States in 1950. After arriving in the US, Ed came to Minneapolis, where he soon met Trudy (nee Vogel) who would become his wife. Together they had three children, Dianne, Ruth, and Larry. In 1962, they moved to their home in St. Louis Park. Trudy passed away in 1991. Ed was very interested in the mechanics of things and valued the idea of fixing anything and everything himself. Ed worked full-time for Barry Blower for over 40 years until his retirement in 1993. Outgoing by nature, Ed enjoyed meeting new friends wherever he went. He was an active member of his local sheet metal workers’ union. He also served in leadership roles for his local B’nai B’rith chapter, including as president. Even as he neared the end of his life, Ed loved playing the harmonica for family, friends, and beyond. For many years he played with the Windjammers harmonica group. He also enjoyed singing with the Maennerchor, a men’s German choir. Though his relationship with Germany was bittersweet, Ed was fond of his hometown of Berlin, about which he never tired of telling stories. Ed is survived by his three children, Dianne, Ruth (Ed Newton), and Larry (Wendy) and six grandchildren, Michael Webster, Amy Wolff (Aaron Smith), Matthew Webster (Catie Glatz), Kaylene Patnode, and Rachel and Rebekah Wolf. Ed was blessed with three great-grandsons, Jakob and Yonatan Wolff, and Thaddeas Patnode. He also leaves his special friend of over 20 years, Lillian Stiernagle. He is preceded in death by his wife, Trudy and son-in-law, David Webster. Ed’s family would like to thank Eagle Crest for the supportive and social environment they provided for him in his last 15 months of life. Zoom funeral service 10:30 am, WEDNESDAY, December 2nd.
