Earl Jay Getsug Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Earl Jay Getsug, age 94, of Eagan, passed away September 9, 2013 at Ark on the River in Anoka. He was born on November 10, 1918 in St. Paul, and was the last surviving child of Mathilda nd Julius Getsug. . Preceded in death by parents Julius & Mathilda Getsug, siblings Joseph, Bertram, Beatrice Shepard, Sidney and Doris Getsug. Earl is survived by nephews and niece, Donald Getsug, June Banet, Ray Getsug, Steven Getsug and Julian Shepard, and great nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Earl is remembered by his family and friends as a peaceful, kind, caring soul who was a model of love and generosity to his family and community. After his service in the US Army during WWII, he made a career of helping others. First, at the United Way in Mpls. and later as an employment counselor with the Minnesota State Department of Employment Security. Helping others defined him. He retired after 50 years of service with the State of Minnesota. He was also meticulous with his health. He stayed in shape through his 80's and was a physical-fitness hero of sorts at the local YMCA. In his final years, he devoted himself to caring for his older sister and his younger brother. He was active in the American Legion Hamline Post 418. Earl was a graduate of the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities campus where he earned both a Bachelor and a Master's degree. Funeral service was Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at HODROFF-EPSTEIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 671 So. Snelling Ave., St Paul.
