November 26, 1954 - September 20, 2021
Age 66, lived his whole life in the Twin Cities. He passed peacefully with family by his side on Sept. 20, 2021. He grew up in North Mpls and moved to St. Louis Park as a young teen. He attended the University of MN which was always his dream as he and his family were huge MN sports fans and especially loyal Gopher fans. With his love of sports and people, David entered the business world. He brought his charismatic personality and big heart wherever he went. He is preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Charlotte (Ermansky) Rutman; and father in law, Herbert Bernick. He is survived by his wife, Sheila (Bernick), married just shy of 39 years; and the true loves of his life, his four children, their spouses and three grandchildren. Marni (Brent) Gensler, Rochelle (Christopher) Rogers, Allison (Andrew) Lifson, Charles Rutman, Liam and Eva Gensler and Cecilia Rogers; his brother, Gordon (Sherri) Rutman; mother-in law, Marcia Bernick; brothers and sisters in law, Alan (Elisa) Bernick, Steven (Vivian) Bernick and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. David had many passions throughout his life. He loved to play sports, and shared his love of sports by coaching his own children and many others. Always watching sports, he never gave up on his MN Vikings. David’s long health battles even to the end were always fought with courage, a smile and his signature thumbs up! The family wishes to thank all the medical personnel who helped David through his challenges with great skill, compassionate care and kindness. David will always be remembered for his love of sports, playing cards with his good buddies, his love of good food (especially Chinese food and french silk pie), but most of all, for his love of family! David, always in our hearts. Zoom funeral 12:00 PM on THURSDAY, September 23rd. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to Sholom Home East, JCC, Beth Jacob Congregation or donor's choice. Email [email protected] for link to service.
