December 11, 1946 - January 31, 2020
Age 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, January 31, 2020. Darlene is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Larry; loyal brother, David Munic; adoring daughter, Pam and son-in-law, Marc Kermisch; the love of her life and granddaughter, Gracie Kermisch; brothers-in-law, Jerry Greenstein and Art Braufman; sister-in-law, Sheila Braufman; and many amazing nieces, nephews, family and friends. Darlene was born December 11, 1946 in Duluth, Minnesota to Gertie and Milton Munic. She graduated from Duluth East High School and the University of Minnesota. Darlene met Larry in 1965 and they married in 1967. Darlene was a bookkeeper for the first half of her career, but really found her passion when she became a corporate concierge in 1992. Darlene worked at Carlson Center as the Lead Concierge until 2017 and took great pride in providing a personalized approach to her clients. She got them the best tickets to the best shows in the Twin Cities, she brought holiday boutiques to the office and she solved problems for her customers which, she loved every second of it. Darlene was a member and past President of the National Concierge Association and was recognized as Concierge of the Year. In 2017 Darlene went out on her own with Queen Darlene Tickets and loved running her own show. She was energized and gratified by making people happy. Darlene was a mah-jongg maven. She loved to play multiple times each week with her friends and was delighted when she could come home with her big winnings of several quarters. Recently Darlene added canasta to her repertoire of gaming. Darlene had a competitive spirit, but more than anything she adored her mahj and canasta friends and felt such a sense of belonging. She took care of everyone with warmth and thoughtfulness. She lived her life to the fullest, never letting MS or Multiple Myeloma ever hold her back. Darlene had a positive outlook on life and lived for experiences and memories with her family and friends. While Darlene’s passing at this time wasn’t expected, she gave a fierce fight and lived with grace all the way to the end. She will be greatly missed, but the love and life she brought to the world and to her friends, family and community has left a legacy that will continue. Special gratitude to Dr. Prashant Kapoor, M.D. and the ICU Team at Mayo Clinic for their loving care.
