Edina, Minnesota
With great sorrow we announce the passing of Dr. Charles Sheldon Bland, of Edina, on Tuesday, September 17, 2019, at 78 years of age. Preceded in death by parents, Louis & Elizabeth Bland; brother, Harvey Bland. He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife, Rhonda Bland; daughter, Laura Bland; son, Jeffrey (Karen) Bland; grandchildren, Rory, Sawyer, Georgia & Colette Bland. Special appreciation to Kofi Boadu, his friend and devoted caregiver.
Sheldon was born in Winnipeg, Canada and received his medical degree in 1966 from the University of Manitoba. He interned at Hennepin County General Hospital and completed his residency in Neurology at the University of Minnesota in 1970. He was a Fellow in Neurophysiology and Electromyography, Institute of Neurophysiology Copenhagen, Denmark, and a Fellow in Neurology at Toronto General Hospital. He returned to the University of Minnesota in 1972 as Assistant Professor of Neurology and Associate Director of the EMG Lab. He eventually was appointed Clinical Professor of Neurology at the U. One of the things he most loved about being a professor was teaching, nurturing and supporting his students, and in return his students respected and admired him. He also held numerous appointments at area hospitals. During his subsequent years in private practice he was regarded among his colleagues with high esteem.
Sheldon was a lifelong learner whose curiosity and interests were limitless. From photography and painting to astronomy, technology and music, nothing was beyond his endeavor. He loved playing golf with family and friends at Braemar and Indian Ridge. Sheldon and Rhonda enjoyed a lifetime of travel together.
But most of all, for him, there was no place like home. He adored his wife, children and grandchildren. They gave him his greatest pleasure.
