Barbara Eiger

October 16, 1927 - November 26, 2019

Born October 16, 1927, died peacefully on November 26, 2019. Preceded in death by her husband, David; parents, Esther and Morris Rabkin; stepmother, Sylvia Rabkin; and granddaughter, Liz Eiger. Survived by daughter, Esta Eiger Stecher; sons, Kenneth (Susan) Eiger and Martin (Elisa) Eiger; grandchildren, Michael Stecher, Emily Stecher (Stephen Rosenthal) and Kimberly Eiger; great-grandchildren, Mason, Bailey and Zeke Rosenthal; brothers, Mitchell (Adrienne) Rabkin, Ira (Maryann) Rabkin and William (Sara) Rabkin; sister, Susan Schulz; sister-in-law, Dora Zaidenweber; many nieces, nephews, their children and grandchildren; cousins; and dear friends, all of whom she loved dearly. Barbara was born in Boston and raised in Camden, New Jersey. She earned her bachelor’s degree in 1948 and master’s degree in 1950 from the University of Pennsylvania and then moved to Minnesota in 1950. She and David Eiger were married on July 11, 1954, and enjoyed 40 years of marriage until his death. She was active in many community organizations, including Hadassah, Beth El Synagogue, and the American Association of University Women. She enjoyed bridge, mystery novels, the symphony, theater, opera, travel, and spending time with her many friends and family. Special thanks to Kathleen Dempsey of Pathfinder Care Management, the staff of Home Care Assistance, Above & Beyond Senior Services for their excellent care over the past two years, and to Gayle Deshong for her assistance and steadfast companionship. Barbara was loved and will be missed by all who knew her. Funeral service 9:30 am FRIDAY, November 29th at BETH EL SYNAGOGUE, 5225 Barry Street W., St. Louis Park. Memorials preferred to Beth El Synagogue, Hadassah or donor’s choice. SHIVA will be held at Beth El Synagogue on Friday from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm, with a Mincha service at 3:45 pm.
