June 17, 1937 - January 10, 2021
Arlene Sandra Dockman, 83, passed away on 1/10/21 due to the combined effects of dementia and COVID-19. Arlene was born in St. Paul, MN on 6/17/37 and spent most of her childhood and adult years in the Twin Cities. She attended North High School in Minneapolis, MN and continued lifelong friendships with many of her classmates there. She earned a degree in Social Work from the University of Minnesota and served as a child protective services worker and, later, as a social worker at a group home for adolescent girls. Arlene and her husband, Marty, loved to travel together; and they visited many places including Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Morocco, and Italy among other places. Arlene loved to connect with her friends and joined them regularly in playing bridge, mahjong, and canasta. Arlene was also active in BOND (Branching Out in New Directions). She was asked and agreed to head the BOND committee charged with writing the bylaws for BOND, and she was particularly proud of work she did in that organization directed at early childhood education. Arlene loved irises, looking at the fall leaves in Minnesota, jelly beans, chocolate, and all things sweet. Arlene had a large extended family and was very close to many of her first cousins. She was highly intelligent and loved crossword puzzles and reading Shakespeare and Agatha Christie mysteries. Arlene’s playfulness and sense of humor were cherished by those who knew her. Arlene will be greatly missed and forever loved. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, Jack Collins and Ann (Ziskin) Collins, and her husband, Martin Dockman. She is survived by her brother, David Collins (Marilyn); daughters, Meredy Goldberg Edelson, Jodi Goldberg, and Liz Dockman; son, Jeff Dockman; grandchildren, Janae Townsend (Russell), Micaela Edelson, Daniel Drown, Matthew Wyatt (Rachel), Jacklyn Wyatt, and Chauntell Hamilton (Austin); nephew, Michael Collins; numerous great-grandchildren; and many beloved grand-dogs.
